Tumor growth and metastasis are dynamic processes, exerting a systemic influence on the immune system, tissue homeostasis, and the gut microbiota. These systemic changes impact tumor progression and limit anti-cancer immune responses. The goal of the Rutkowski lab is to gain a deeper understanding of how the microbiome and immune microenvironment influence cancer development and metastasis. Through this lens, we work to define mechanisms underlying immunotherapy resistance and metastasis.
