Dr. James Zimring of the Carter Immunology Center Chosen as the 2024 Recipient of the Tibor Greenwalt Memorial Award

The Tibor Greenwalt Memorial Award from the AABB (Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies), recognizes an individual who made major scientific or clinical contributions to hematology, transfusion medicine or biotherapies, and succinctly communicated these advances.

In recognition of his vast influence on the field and his scientific achievements. Dr. James Zimring MD, PhD, the Thomas W. Tillack Professor of Experimental Pathology in the Department of Pathology and resident member of the Carter Immunology Center was among the first to use murine models extensively to study transfusion-based alloimmunization to red blood cells, hemolytic transfusion reactions and mechanisms of immunoprophylaxis of anti-D. These models have since been used throughout the field and have been indispensable in spurring further developments and leading to improvements in blood safety worldwide.

AABB will recognize Dr. Zimring’s achievements at the upcoming 2024 AABB Annual Meeting in Houston, TX, October19-22! The bestowing of AABB’s Awards is a highlight of their Annual Meeting, and an opportunity for members of the community to come together and celebrate the outstanding achievements of their peers.
